As I installed them on my '06 V-Star I noticed the bracket on the left side sat right in front of the tool box cover, the one on the right side in front of the battery cover. I put the tools in my saddle bags as there would be no way to get them out after, the battery side is not too bad, I can still pull the battery for winter.
