Recommend you have at least a 18" pry bar and a 3-lb sledge hammer to drive out the elbow fittings and get the plugs fully seated. Really cleans up the looks of the front and left side of the engine. I am now confidant in purchacing this item with all the possitive comments. Will try using some of that freezing spray for rusted bolts to help loosen the elbows Review Details Was this review helpful to you? Yes No |
(3 stars) reviewed on 10/27/07 byArjan (arjanschenke) from Holland, , Americas, for a 1999 1600/1700 Road Star wrote: Looks good. A must for every roadstar rider. It took a while to remove the two elbows out of the cilinders. Used a long piece of wood and a hammer from the other side to get them out. The tip to put the two new fillings in the freezer for 24 hour before installing was a good idea. Went in easy. No change in performance. Review Details 2 out of 2 members found this review helpful. If it is going to clean up that much on the bike, then they should not install it. Kind of a waste of parts. Well worth doing. A must for a clean looking bike. Yeah, I did it and roadie is purring sweetly! No clattering, no noise, absolutely fantastic! Although very simple task, pulling the elbows is not as easy as it looks when you read few instructions on the net. I used refrigerant R22 gas (if you even mention this in Europe, they'll arrest you, here in UAE nobody cares) to freeze the elbows a bit and then yank them left-right with supplied drift extension, (fits perfectly in the elbow), up-down with a hammer – cautious advised – you are dealing with aluminium alloy cast cylinder! Then slowly out with Vise-Grips! Then I placed the plugs in the holes as far as possible by hand and only then knocked them in with a hammer over supplied drift – again cautious! I kept the plugs in small plastic cups with water and froze them overnight. It helps. When the rest of AIS was removed I plugged the vacuum hose with a golf tee and pushed it under the tank.
