Our new Fi2000R functions the same as the standard Fi2000 and the R version comes with connectors that snap directly into the bike's fuel injector bodies, making the installation even easier than before.

The model-specific Fi2000R features three adjustment screws, called pots, which are preset for the make and model. Two pots adjust low speed and mid-range settings that should take care of most lean air/fuel mixture problems. The Fi2000R also has a third adjustment for high range that functions much like a main jet on a carburetor. This third tuning option is for use with engines that have high flow air filters and or extensive modifications such as big-bore kits, higher compression or other performance increases where more fuel is required in order for the engine to run properly in full-throttle positions.

Because the Fi2000R is designed to eliminate the low rpm lean air/fuel mixtures (just like the Fi2000), it does not increase maximum horsepower, though in most cases it does provide a smoother power curve and improved rideability across a wide rpm range.

The Fi2000R installs quickly and easily, usually in under 60 minutes, and comes with detailed tuning instructions. There are no computer settings to make nor Internet downloads to configure. It's a simple plug-n-play installation that improves the overall rideability of a lean motorcycle immediately.

Too early to tell yet if the fuel economy is any different. Waiting to install my new pipes to see if there is any difference in sound, economy or power.

    VTX 1800 Fuel Tuner Breakdown

    Member Question:
I have a 2008 VTX 1800, any recommendations on a fuel tuner?  I am pretty comfortable working on my bike but have to be honest, a bit intimidated looking at the fuel turner.
Thanks again for your help and insight.

    Answer:
When it comes to your VTX, theere are many solutions out there from custom dynotuned specific maps, or as simple as a plug and play scenario.

My recommendation looks more like a bell curve... from Custom to Plug & Play to Plug it In and Forget It!

If you want Total Control ($305 currently) the PowerCommander will allow you "the most adjustment" with a custom dynotune specific to your bike, intake, pipes, altitude, etc...  Or you can run one of their "maps" and get 90-95% of the way there.

If you want correct air / fuel but want to be light on the budget and don't need 110% accuracy for about $200 you can go with the Cobra 3 Pot system FI2000R.
    http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/cobra-fi2000r-fuel-management-system-h...
I like this kit as you can plug it in and ride.  If your conditions change, you can adjust it on the fly and have all the power and performance without the need to "remap."

The Cats Meow is a the "newish" Cobra Fi2000R Power Pro which is a plug and play for just over $500. Adjust nothing... Just start the bike and while you ride it tunes to exactly what air-fuel mixture creates the maximum power 80 times per second providing adjustment to maximum power on every squirt of the injector. It’s like having the best cust...

I'd say,,Ridiculous how they institute a smog control on a motorcycle..Hell do they have emission control guarding the borders for incoming traffic, lol,,I'm sure the worst possible levels for a motocycle could not match a dump truck or military vehicle or, or..I guess there is no limit on how LOW people can go..

Here is what a "standard" power commander tuning page looks like and as you can see... it's Totally Adjustable! The positive number are "fuel additions" and the negative numbers are "reduction of fuel" as compared to the OEM configurations. http://2wheeltuesday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/power-commander.jpg

That is very helpful Kyle, I was looking for some thing like this a while back. I have one question though. I see a lot of exhausts and fuel tuners specify "Not for use in California" As we are not familiar with the differences there, could you tell us what this all means? I know when I ordered my Cobras, I didn't consider the Oxy sensors and I have had to bypass them with a resistor. I haven't installed the FI 2000 on the 109 yet but am seriously considering one.

California... California. The worlds best year round weather with the ability to be surfing, snow skiing, mtn biking, hiking in the redwoods, racing in the desert, exploring volcanoes, rappelling into caves and caverns, hiking half dome in Yosemite... and much much more... in just a couple of hours.

All of that has the side effect of some of the most stringent laws to "protect the people"... Our emissions are stringent and the CARB (California Air Resources Board) does all they can to keep motorcycles out of the forest, off the road, and not rideable as they "pollute the air."

Bikes come from the factory with super stringent air / fuel / exhaust settings. Here in California, if you modify those parts, you could be in danger of a fine for removing the emissions protectants.

The "CARB Approved" fuel tuners DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO ADJUST fuel until the motor is above 3500 RPM or the throttle is more more than 40% open. What good is that? I want my bike to run best off the line and up to 3500 RPM... where it's "useable!" Check out this snapshot... the greyed out section is NOT Tuneable! http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/photos/POWER-COMMANDER-EX-SCREEN.jpg

The "Not for use in California" units allow you to adjust fuel at ALL stages of the game from Idel to full wide open. As of yet, bikes are not required to get smog tested... but it's only a matter of time.

I totally recommend the Cobra PowerPro tuner for perfect tuning with zero headache / maps / tuning.
