Wearing a helmet that has been hit hard can dramatically increase the likelihood of a serious injury. Motorcycle riders are often not aware that they've hit their helmet in a crash - or they don't realize how hard they've hit it. A damaged helmet often looks perfectly fine on the exterior. Brain injury criteria are still much debated in medicine, but most experts accept that a peak acceleration anywhere near 300 G's is dangerous and could be deadly, depending on injuries sustained elsewhere on the body.
