I could do it if I wanted to make modifications involving a grinder. Wish I would have tried to fit it sooner because it's been too long to attempt to return it. I checked the Kuryakyn website and it says Fits: All Vulcan 1500 & '03-'04 Vulcan 1600 Classic Models ('05-'08 Vulcan 1600 use P/N 8857) So I guess I need the 8857... Did not have to worry about step two of the instructions as hole in rear plate fitted perfectly over the protruding screw boss with no removal necessary.
