Do this if riding is more important than looking good!!! Reason for going narrower than stock (down to 150/90 from 170/80) was an attempt to improve the handling of the bike. The tyre looks slightly narrow for the rim (measured to exactly 150 mm wide)whereas the Avon 170/80 looked much too wide for a 4 in rim. But 4 in is the correct match according to Dunlop. From the side the narrow D404 looks really good with taller appearing sidewall making it look bigger than the standard size. Up front, I fitted a Conti TK22 Super Twin 3.50-19. This tyre is extremely oversize; it should in theory be 88 mm wide, but is actually 103.5 mm (4.07 in). For me, this is perfect since the tyre is only made in this size, whereas I ideally would have liked a 100/90-19 - which is basically what I got.
