Word of advice - before tightening all the bolts for the brackets and trying to attach backrest, use the spacer and bolt to line up the middle hole. If not, you will not be able to get the threads started when you attempt to re-attach the backrest to the bike. You could actually install it w/o removing the backrest, just have to remove the rear most bolt to attach the small spacer plate. Also, do not overtighten the backrest back on the bike. Mounting the brackets themselves was very easy but getting the bags just right (height and angle to each other) took some time.
