    Well Dan, if you look carefully you might see two flat plates attached to the upright members of the 'Sissybar'.
    These are the mounting brackets to which you refer, the bolts that are currently holding your rear mudguard in place must be carefully removed, and then after the 'Sissybar' is placed over that very same area, the bolts must be re-inserted through the flat plates in the 'Sissybar', through the brackets holding your mudguard on and then screwed up tight thus holding everything firmly in place (using a suitable spanner) - you will then be ready to ride off into the sunset knowing full well that you have achieved a remarkable fete of engineering that will remain locked in your memory for time immemorial .....cheers
