They don't stick out any further than the stock pipes so my short legs still clear them quite well. I like to ride wearing shorts so I am happy there is no increased risk of exhaust burn. The sound is good to very good. Just somewhat louder at idle than stock. Louder on acceleration. I think the Vance& Hines Cruzers have a deeper sound, but I like the looks of the Slash Cuts better.
