It does stick out a bit, and my knee does rub against the filter cover. But it's a large flat surface, and not uncomfortable. I also replaced my footpegs with peg-replacement-floorboards. With my short legs, 30" inseam, this would be necessary for riding comfortably with this item as my leg does have to bend slightly around the filter to reach the footpeg. For me and my short legs that woould be difficult, but not a problem at all with the floorboards. It doesn't require an adaptor plate, so installation I think would be easier than other airboxes. The finish on the cover isn't as mirror smooth and reflective as the stock cover. From a distance it looks more like a brushed aluminum cover, and picks up smudges that are easily apparent on closer inspection.
