I simply separated it, put it on the brake pedal and tightened the set-screws. The only thing that they don't tell you is that the cap-screws are torex heads. I'm not sure why others had do any grinding on their brake pedals if they ordered the correct part #. The bigger pedal also makes it easier to hit the brake too.
