It appeared I had too many parts and some odd ones that came wth the adapters made no sense (prob for diff bikes?). After spending too much time researching I installed them with 2 D-ring springs each included &(needed) for my 03 VTX1800C. First one was a bit of a pain because of the above but, the 2nd took 5 min.
