New plate frame for Drifter

The original holder was too large for the licence plate and stood out quite a lot. There are no Laydown Curved Licence Plate Frames for the Drifter so I decided to try the Kuryakyn Glossy Black Laydown Curved License Plate Frame part number KY-3148. This item is actually designed for some Harley's and Honda VTX's. As such I had to use my drill press to drill 2 new holes on the base for the bolts and a centre hole where centre rivet sticks out. Not a big issue but a little more work. The other issue is that the standard bolts are not long enough when using the rubber gasket. Luckily I had several M6 x 16mm Allen head bolts that were a perfect fit.

Whilst Australian licence plates are 7 x 4, they vary a little from USA plates. As a result I had to drill new mounting holes in the plate and flatten the raised rim around the plate. Then it all went together quite well as can be seen in the photo.

Overall I think it looks better than the original and allows the plate to flow...

i love the way it looks, plate curves in the frame and frame wraps with the fender. i could only actually tighten one bolt into the fender without having to drill but it holds without fear. only problem is the stock plate light doesn't shine on the plate now...haven't had any legal issues yet while night driving but have been pondering ways to fix this.
