Question & Answers:

    Relay switch w/ these horns

A friend of mine gave me a set that came off his 1800 Goldwing. Another friend told me he was going to get a set too, and saw a video that said you had to put a relay with these horns. My question is, do you really have to have a relay with installation of these horns, or will they work without one? I installed them on my 2010 Vulcan Voyager, and they seem to be working fine.

So do I need to install a relay switch?

Note the Kuryakyn page says it comes witha horn relay, so a relay is advisable:

Any standard 4 pin auto relay (eg 20 to 30 amp relay for lights or horn etc) will suffice as long as it has the pinouts as shown in the above example

The horn switch is not designed to continually carry high current and it may end up failing as the contacts will end up building up crud on the mating surfaces from the arcing. Far safer to use the horn switch to switch a relay that feeds your horns.
