The newest Bell creation definitely has the sinister look going for it. Known for their uniquely styled ¾ and half helmets, Bell raises the stakes with the Rouge helmet, a creation aimed at riders who tend to not wear full face helmets. We think the product is a success and have already spotted muzzles on the freeway and riding through twisties. It’s an attention getter for sure. But is the Rogue Helmet worth whopping $249.95? Read on to find out.
Bell Helmet’s intention was to fill a void that existed between half and full face helmets. Now riders can enjoy the benefits of total protection without encasing their heads in a 360 degree suffocating shell, which full face helmets can be in hot weather even with vents open. Obviously the unique part of the helmet is the muzzle, so let’s focus on that part first. The muzzle is comprised of two parts; a hard polyurethane outer shell that’s flexible and a soft, and removable inner liner made of cloth.
The helmet has the capacity to be worn snug against your face or with a bit of clearance between your mug and the muzzle, because the old rule still applies: your helmet must fit snug. The Rogue helmet also has two adjustable muzzle straps on each side of the helmet to further adjust the fit. Simply push in the button holding them in place to move the straps in or out. its muzzle comes with two ‘FidLock’ magnetic connections, so once it’s lined up with the slots, the magnets will pull it into place. Easy presto.
The more you wear it, the more you’ll become accustomed to the muzzle sitting on the bridge of your nose. That’s the general consensus from initial impressions we’ve gathered from the office and our customers. You’ll still get wind rushing over your temples and cheeks, but it is a noticeable improvement over a half-shell. But therein lies the advantage the Rouge Helmet has seized over the competition. You are still wearing a half-helmet with the benefits of a full-face. Genius, right? And, who doesn’t want to have the appearance of a DOT-approved Storm Trooper? Don’t be shy, you know you’ve thought about it at least once. This isn’t a novelty helmet, it’s the real thing, and available now.
When it comes to purchasing helmets, follow our sage advice: visit a local motorcycle dealer, try on the helmet. Get a feel for it, growl at your friends in it, you can even a take a picture and post it in your cubicle at work if you’re still undecided. Whatever you have to do, give the Rouge helmet an honest try. We feel it’s a good fitting helmet, and a great addition to the Bell line of brain buckets. When our Bell representative visited the office with a Rouge sample we all had a go trying it on and making our best evil face. Some were more effective than others.
The Bell Rogue Helmet is available in sizes X-Small to 2XL. Choose from black, matte black, matte green or matte gunmetal. Go vicious or go home (we couldn’t resist)
