Excellent seat. Had one on my 1100 Shadow Spirit and loved it. The same week I bought my VTX I bought a Mustang seat. So I guess I can't compare the new seat to the original VTX seat. But I really love it, and the backrest is MONEY!! I've had the bike (and the seat) for 5 years now, over 12,000 miles on it, and still love it. I've done a few long distance rides and am glad my butt is in this seat and not a hard OEM one.

Had a Mustang seat on my previous bike (1300R) so getting this seat for the 1800 was a no-brainer. This time I got the drivers' backrest, it's very comfy and convenient. The passenger pillion is sooo.. superior to the O.E.M. seat.

My previous bike I had a Mustang seat on it, so when I bought my VTX 1800R it was only necessary for me to buy one for it. I had a little trouble with the installation with getting the bolt holes to like up on the solo, front of seat fabric crinkled a little and may lay down with time. Rear seat I had trouble with getting the standard bolt to engage the threads on the rear fender. I used a pair of pliers to bend the attachment piece of the seat to match the contour of the fender. This helped with the installation. Took the bike our for a ride (50 miles). Feels good. Photos of seat on the bike are on my profile.

This seat is extremely comfortable and back support is excellent (something I really appreciate having injured my lower back at work)! If you are still using the stock seat, you are missing out on a much more comfortable ride! Installation was pretty straight forward. However, the holes in the mounting brackets on the drivers seat were difficult to line up to the holes on the bike. Front of driver seat had to be compressed very tightly against the fuel tank to get the holes to line up. The compression against the tank caused the cover on the seat to have a few wrinkles, although the wrinkles seem to be smaller after two days installed. Hopefully they will disappear completely. Rear mounting bracket on passenger seat doesn't angle down nearly enough. Tightening the passenger seat to the fender torqued the bracket so severly that I thought it was going to pop the rivets right out of the seat base, so I installed two nylon washers under the bracket and used a slightly longer bolt ...

Very nice seat, but it has to work for you. It does tend to tip you back a bit more than stock. And I notice that because of the seat shape and angle, it is a little more work to touch the ground (for someone shorter like me) and the reach for the bars is harder. But it is a very nice seat if it fits you right. A similiar seat from mustang was perfect for me on another bike model, but I ended up replacing this one with an Ultimate lowrider for the VTX.
