This was purchased as a summer alternative to my National Cycle Heavy-Duty touring windshield. The Touring model is nice, but it can get uncomfortably warm in summer conditions, compounded by the fact I constantly have to maneuver my neck to see over or through it (5'8" height). This windshield is slightly wider and quite a bit lower, yet is of similar thickness to the Touring model. In its lowest position, I get some moderate head buffeting (even with lower deflectors), and this can be noticably uncomfortable with an open-faced helmet. However, it's highest position still affords me plenty of view-over space. The higher position is acceptable with a full-face helmet, and even channels cool air through my Syncrotec's top vent. A good alternative to those who want a view with good protection. If you don't already have the mounting kit, read my review of the Touring windshield. The mounting kit installation is its own adventure...

Good Stuff! Held out on this purchase for a long time because I didn't want to mess with the low "line" of my bike - but after getting relocated (Unlce Sam likes to move us camouflaged boys around a lot) and facing a 30 mile highway commute one-way to work - it was time. Am very pleased! I'm 5'8" - can still see over the top on its highest setting, with just a touch of buffeting at 80mph+ where the wind hits the top of my helmet. Still think that I will remove it after the winter season is over, if anything to preserve the condition as long as possible.

When I first pulled it out of the box, I definately thought it was going to be too short. However, after holding it up to the bike, the shield was just right, and looked good. Installation of the mounting bracket was not as easy as expected. On my ACE, you had to make sure (1) the flanges of the mounting brackets are perpendicular to the triple tree and (2) make sure that the two halves of the mounting bracket are perfectly aligned so that the long winshield bolts can pass thru easily. I learned this the hard way! Next, test fit the shield so that you can adjust the center piece of the shield. I recommend taking the shield off to tighten the bottom screws that hold the adjustable piece. The rest of the install should go fairly easy. With the shield at the highest setting, I get some head buffeting around 45 mph. I wanted to take the shield off because after riding for about 15 minutes, I ended up with a headache. Will look into getting some lowers.

I am a smaller rider and the chopped HD shield is a good fit for me because it is adjustable from 13 to 15". The adjustable window is a good idea but I have had some problems with it vibrating. The mounting brackets, fit and finish are very good.
