Moving them (sliding) after the face can leave small scratches on the forks. They are good quality and look great. I have this on a Spec 3 model and it is causing the chrome fork covers to crack some (not happy but they have been on for 3 years). Now that I have them all is well with world. Place a piece of cardboard between fork and mounting strap until you get the bolt threaded and then remove it. Measure, following the instructions exactly and you should end up with at least a ¼ inch clearance from tank on each side. The lowers are bolted on with the windshield mounts.
