I had the dealer install this windshield on my shadow as part of the deal. While I'm not a fan of the looks of windshields, I love riding with one. This design is exactly what I need, so that when I want the clean look, I just pop the windshield off and hit the road. The only sctach I have on mine is self inflected, although it seems like it was fairly easy to scratch.

Stops the wind and rain obviously which keeps you warmer on cool mornings. Drops the wind noise down enough to talk with a passenger while riding. The biggest advantage is the decrease in fatigue you feel after long rides from not fighting the wind (heading W on I-10 outside of Palm Springs). I keep the shield adjusted to just above eye level and it works great. The bike looks better without, but the shield comes on and off in seconds. My rule, generally, is 150 miles or more I'll put it on
