…And this sumptuous Roadstar, both of which stole the show and hearts.
This ever-popular Aero is a work in progress. Stay tuned.

Greetings, Cruisers:
It was an all-day celebration at the July 17th Grand Opening of the Cruiser Customizing Interactive Showroom in the East Bay town of Livermore. Livermore, California is centrally located between world class rides along the Pacific coast (one hour due west) and rides to the Sierra Mountains (two hours due east). So hundreds and hundreds of bikers out riding around stopped by to make the event a party of bikes, bikes and more bikes. All thirty employees of the Cruiser Customizing team were on hand serving out endless plates of food, and showing the bikers around the new facility of 22,000 square feet, including the massive warehouse out back!
Among the events, one of the most popular was the “bike and rider photo session” in front of our grand Stars and Stripes. To all of you who attended the festivities, thanks for helping to make the event such a grand success. And for all our members who could not attend, we sincerely wish you could have been here! The Interactive Showroom is here for each of you, and we hope to see you one and all in the future. Remember, Cruisers, your purchases from the showroom can be shipped out to your address for free! Leave the car in the garage and ride in.
And for those clubs who would like to cruise over, we’ll keep the party running for you. Just let us know in advance when you’ll be visiting the Cruiser Customizing Interactive Showroom, and we’ll prepare free food to all members of your group. And remember, for his magnanimous offer; be sure to tell Big Uwe, “Please pass the mustard!” For opening hours and directions, click here.
BIKERS SERVING BIKERS
At the Grand Opening Celebration, knowledgeable representatives from select companies were on hand to discuss their reputable and innovative products. Our members know that your Cruiser Customizing on-line superstore has dedicated four years to researching the best in biker aftermarket parts and apparel. Cruiser Customizing will offer our members only parts and gear that score at the top in quality, safety and longevity. Period. Big Uwe sums up our philosophy concisely, “We are bikers serving bikers. Every business decision is based upon this principle.” For helping to make the Grand Opening a huge success, we’d like to thank Shane Beeman and Lucina Hawley of CARROLL LEATHER; Mark Johnson of PARTS UNLIMITED; Gregory Beck from TUCKER-ROCKY and Jim Schloffel and his team the LJS GROUP.
Remember that this year the Labor Day Weekend falls on Sept. 3rd, 4th and 5th, three days that see some of the most popular rides of the year. To mark the occasion, Cruiser Customizing is having a sales event beginning today, Aug. 29th. See the specials below.
TRANSFORMING THE AERO
BARON’S, famous for their great tachometers and other motorcycle instruments, generously sent over two great metric customs that immediately riveted the attention of everyone who walked in. Baron’s held back no expense in creating these two stunning showpieces: A Kawasaki Vulcan in pearlescent pearl and a Yamaha Roadstar in hypnotic blue. Between theses two sumptuous customs, Big Uwe parked a Honda 750 Aero that was sporting some popular, easily-installed parts from Cruiser Customizing. This demonstrates that even with a minimum of expense and effort; you can ride a head-turning custom that holds its own with bikes that cost many, many times more.
Director of Customer Service Kyle Bradshaw, who is known to our members as one of our trusted Customizing Consultants, went over each of the Honda’s aftermarket mods with me. The Honda 750 Aero is a fine bike with gobs of potential, yet one that cries out for a little dressing. It was purchased showroom floor stock from MACH ONE MOTORSPORTS in Vallejo, California. First, new pipes by DG HARD KROME and an air kit with a K&N filter by THUNDER MANUFACTURING were installed to not only improve the look of the cruiser, but to offer a substantial boost in horsepower. The chrome radiator cover, “neck” trim and horn cover by Show Chrome Accessories add a harmonious and artistic integrity, a skill that customizers are paid big sums to accomplish in a project. Finally, the windshield by MEMPHIS SHADES not only adds beauty but gives the Honda a business-like and practical highway value.
And there it is, with a little thought and a minimum of expense, an ordinary cruiser is turned into a showbike that can hold its own between two very expensive pieces of rolling art. The Honda will continue its transformation, so stay tuned for this exploration of endless possibilities. To shift gears into new levels of after-market beautification for your own ride, try giving Kyle or our other knowledgeable “Customizing Consultants” a call.
GEAR FROM CRUISER CUSTOMIZING
Riders know that an enjoyable ride means riding safely(!). You’ve heard it before, but it bears repeating: “Don’t dress for the ride. Dress for the crash.” In our philosophy of “riders serving riders”, Cruiser Customizing is dedicated to offering our members only the best in safety gear, strong yet fashionable apparel that will protect you from not only the fickle elements of Nature, but in the worst case scenario as well. For many riders, this means leather. Good, thick leather has the ability to protect skin by taking the punishment in a skid situation. That’s why Cruiser Customizing proudly offers leather riding wear from Carroll Leather, and textile and leather jackets from FIRST GEAR.
During the Grand Opening Celebration, your Editor spent several enjoyable hours talking with Shane Beeman. Also a rider, Shane is the rep for Carroll Leather, makers of the MILWAUKEE, INTERSTATE and HEAVY DUTY lines of rider apparel. Carroll Leather has been in business since 1972, and has been manufacturing moto-gear for a decade and a half. Their factory in Boone, North Carolina, employs 185 hard-working Americans. Shane advises that buying leather is like buying a diamond: just as some stones are merely industrial quality while others are priceless gems, so it is with hides. Informed buyers know that fashion leather and riding leather are worlds apart. Good riding leather can offer up to eighty feet of skid protection, while trendy leathers tailored for chic and dash may offer as little as five feet of skid protection. Good riding leathers are stylish, true, but they are also functional. Brand name riding leather is your best protection against road burn in a tight situation.
Here’s what Shane had to say: “When buying leather, ask the hard questions. What kind of hide is it? Our high end Milwaukee line are all made from 100% cow hide averaging 1.4 millimeter in thickness. We start with the highest quality hides that require minimal finishing. Then we build into theses select hides unmatched design and strong stitching that won’t pull apart. We use heavy-duty YKK zippers and build useful features into each jacket. Our Streethunter model, for example, has a rolled collar that prevents neck chaffing, a Zippo pocket, six separate vents, and we use a single panel on the back to accommodate your club’s patch. Each model has a zip-out liner and a mesh sub-liner that keeps leather from chaffing the rider’s skin. Our jackets have straight arm styling for the cruising position and lifestyle. We cover nearly everybody: our Milwaukee line is sized from XS to XXXL, and we go up to 5X in the Interstate line. The fit of our jacket is for wearing ‘comfortably tight’, and our vests feature side laces, something bigger guys appreciate.
“Also, the twelve gauge ‘hard’ latigo leather we use in our line of Milwaukee Boots is about twice as thick as the jackets, for riding boots that combine comfort with maximum protection. The boots are made with Freedom Flex soles, and have an ‘already broken in’ feel. There are seven traditional styles with sizes from six to thirteen. We focus on quality married to style. However, consumers who are looking for the cheapest boots and apparel must look elsewhere. Our promise to the cruising rider is the highest standard of fit and protection for a safe, enjoyable ride.”
THE FORMOTION WATCH
The Formotion N-Wave watch was another hit at the Grand Opening Celebration. When the N-Wave was released at the Cincinnati motorcycle exposition, Big Uwe, a watch lover, decided he wanted to be the first to own one. I picked up a red-face beauty at the party and have been truly impressed with its style and accuracy over the past month, getting compliments wherever I go. The design of the watch was inspired by the sonic vibrations created when a jet plane breaks the sound barrier, technically called the N-wave. Formotion’s N-Wave mode is a high quality timepiece that features 5 ATM water resistance, a Citizen chronograph movement, a hard mineral crystal, all wrapped in the highest quality stainless steel. This is a watch that was designed from the ground up especially for the cruiser lifestyle.
Also check out the other heavy-duty products like thermometers and compases from Formotion offered at Cruiser Customizing. Or the Tensor wrist watch and matching handlebar watch which you’ve got to see to believe.
Formotion came out with two more innovative products: Just Bag It! and Clip It!.
AFTER THE PARTY
After the party, everyone rode out his or her separate way. Including Big Uwe who hopped on his new green metallic Texas Chopper from American Iron Horse and took off with his riding buddy “Machine” from Germany, destination the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Uwe, who bought the custom from Arlen Ness, later said, “No, I didn’t see any other choppers in the high altitude of the mountains. But riding a high horsepower stretched bike through the twisties is a different, thrilling sort of motorcycling. Muscle it through the curves, then lot’s of torquey throttle into the straightaway. Truly awesome.”
MEMBER FEEDBACK
Member Ciseone, who rides a Shadow Spirit wrote to say, “Love you guys and gals. As an Ole Biker for forty years now (started when I was fifteen), it’s a real pleasure to be able to go to one place and get most of what I need to customize my scoot. I have talked to a few of you on the phone and on the “live help chat” to find out what I need and I’ve always been treated great. To all my biker brothers ad sisters out there, ride safe, ride free and have fun…no matter what you ride. Love, Cis”
-Thanks, Cis, for letting us know how we are doing. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction. Remember, if we do a good job, tell others. If we don’t, tell us! –Ed.
CRUISER CUSTOMIZING RAP
Hey now, Cruisers, we got the sound…and you heard it here first. Remember last month’s Cruiser Customizing Rap feature? Well, we’ve got more than mere feedback, what we have is more like the birth of a new genre of music. Member Mark Pringle of Alabama conspired with his rapping buddy Josiah Davis, AKA Jizzy Dee, and these guys have produced a truly fine performance of moto-rap, an all-time first. To listen up, Cruisers, click here. Does Mark ride? Oh yes, he does: to check out his stupendous Star copping a trophy in an ocean of chrome, click here. Mark knows where the deals are, he got his pipes and other accessories right here at Cruiser Customizing. Thanks Mark and Jizzy Dee. You’re the best, yo.

Motorcycling and the quest for freedom go hand in hand. In fact it's safe to say that the motorcycle industry as it exists today was born from this quest and the wars that resulted.
WWI and WWII gave the biggest boost ever to motorcycling. They played a major role in the rise of motorcycling around the world. For me motorcycles would have to be near the top of the list of good things that grew out of war because they provide me and many others with a physical expression of the freedom and independence that soldiers around the world fight so hard for. Apparently those who know me would say that I wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to how much I love my bike. That may be true. I have many riding buddies who have a bike, bought a second bike, traded in a bike, got another bike. My ride is one and only humble Yamaha V Star 650 Classic, that I have spent time (and will continue to) customizing it to fit and suit me and no one else.
In the beginning: My first bike was restricted by the 250cc max capacity for learner riders, before LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) came into effect in Victoria. I chose the Suzuki Intruder 250 LC. A great little cruiser bike that I was (and still am) attached to. I bought this bike with the thought that I would keep and ride it forever, because the size was extremely manageable for my small frame of under 5 feet tall. I was of the mind that I couldn't manage to ride anything bigger (read: taller, wider, heavier). Read More >>
