1. In Our Rear View Mirror
Greetings, Cruisers,
2005 has turned out to be a watershed year for Cruiser Customizing. The level of interest in the company is higher than ever, whether you listen to the phones ringing, count site visits or just reflect on the number of people who have stopped by to talk.
This year we finally ran out of space in our warehouse in Fremont, and so we moved our entire operations to Livermore. We also opened a retail store next to our new warehouse. During our grand opening party, we got to know new customers and new neighbors. Arlen Ness, with his shop just north of ours, dropped by to welcome us. Many others have done the same.
Summer proved to put a strain on the company from both a sales and support standpoint. It was our best summer ever, even with the high cost of gasoline. Internally, we’d grown to 31 motorcycles (that’s 25 employees), but it was clear our old systems also needed up-grading. We promised ourselves that we’d put those changes in place right after the Christmas season and our management team is now working fast and furiously to get them completed.
The fall here in California was unseasonably warm and dry, but by Christmas it was cold. Our holiday party at the old Pleasanton Hotel was a welcome break before the end of the year push.
Our formula has always been to be bikers first and sell what other bikers need. Our 31 bikes went an average of 14,100 miles each during the year, and we were blessed in that we had no major accidents. Our online community – bikers helping bikers -- is a central part of how we make Cruiser Customizing different, and in our minds, better. This year, we saw our membership grow to over 100,000 people. Our members have now produced more than 250,000 product reviews.
Thank you for all your support, all your feedback and your continued love of motorcycling. Happy holidays and have a great, safe new year.

The 25th annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Show was held at the San Jose Convention Center December 16-18. Cruiser Customizing had a booth close to Arlen Ness and his choppers. We met with local customers from around the bay area and beyond – many that stopped by had moved from the area but had returned for the holidays. It was great to meet many of the customers we’ve gotten to know over the phone.
There were lots of special exhibits and industry celebrities attending. Arlen Ness, the king of customizers, along with his son Corey and grandson Zach, showed bikes from the '70s, '80s, '90s and today -- including Corey's Three Headed Monster, which recently beat out his father's bike to win the Discovery Channel's Biker Build-Off. The Northern California Norton Club (www.NORTONCLUB.com) featured beautifully-restored vintage, classic, and antique motorcycles.
About 30,000 people attended the three-day show, even though it rained most of the time. That may have actually helped -- there is nothing like spending a few hours inside two huge halls looking at hundreds of new bikes and thousands of accessories when it’s pouring outside. Because the show was local, many of our employees attended and even pulled booth duty.
Cruiser Customizing is going to attend more shows and rallies in 2006, as part of our efforts to personally meet customers and find out more about what you want in terms of parts and accessories. It’s always great to put a face with a name, and we appreciate you taking the time to stop by and say hello.

Motorcycling and the quest for freedom go hand in hand. In fact it's safe to say that the motorcycle industry as it exists today was born from this quest and the wars that resulted.
WWI and WWII gave the biggest boost ever to motorcycling. They played a major role in the rise of motorcycling around the world. For me motorcycles would have to be near the top of the list of good things that grew out of war because they provide me and many others with a physical expression of the freedom and independence that soldiers around the world fight so hard for. Apparently those who know me would say that I wear my heart on my sleeve when it comes to how much I love my bike. That may be true. I have many riding buddies who have a bike, bought a second bike, traded in a bike, got another bike. My ride is one and only humble Yamaha V Star 650 Classic, that I have spent time (and will continue to) customizing it to fit and suit me and no one else.
In the beginning: My first bike was restricted by the 250cc max capacity for learner riders, before LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) came into effect in Victoria. I chose the Suzuki Intruder 250 LC. A great little cruiser bike that I was (and still am) attached to. I bought this bike with the thought that I would keep and ride it forever, because the size was extremely manageable for my small frame of under 5 feet tall. I was of the mind that I couldn't manage to ride anything bigger (read: taller, wider, heavier). Read More >>
