CruiserCustomizing Staff Pick

Overall Ratings: (5 stars) Reviewed on 10/15/07 by
CruiserCustomizing Staff: Kyle Bradshaw (ManyBikes) from Livermore, CA for a 2003 1300 VTX1300R (S) Retro:

If you like driving in daylight... you can now ride in "daylight" 24/7!!! This bulb is awesome! I replaced the headlight bulb on my VTX three times now... and have been "somewhat satisfied." The first bulb was a "HONDA replacement" and I was not impressed. The second bulb was an "Extreme White" from Wallmart. Not impressed either. The third replacement was this PIAA H$ Xtreme White bulb! I have had it on the bike for just about a year now and I LOVE IT! I see more both in front of me as well as on the sides of the bike. This bulb brings "night vision" to another level. Actually, I liked the bulb so much, I run the H7 version in my GL1800 and have to say the outcome was the same! I LOVE IT. Ease of Install = Less than 10 minutes!
In the winter when fog and rain are abundant, I swap this bulb out for a PIAA-70446 PIAA Powersports H4 Ion Crystal Bulb. This bulb makes visibility in the rain and fog much better!

Much brighter than the factory/stock light at night or day. This allows motorists to see me better during daylight and me to see deer better/quicker at night.

The best light you'll get without going to driving lights....... makes a distinked difference in lighting up the road at night......... well worth the cost...... easy enough to install, just make sure you don't touch the globe with your bare hands.

Does the extreme white H4 look like the bulb in the picture on your website?  My stock H4 has a 2 prong plug on it, not a three prong, like displayed on your website.

    Just found this Liner wiki:

Looks like a HB4 and H7 lamp types

I would take out the halogen lamp, and check the part number and wattage before deciding on what to buy.
I would not recommend putting in a larger wattage lamp as the extra heat and current will affect the plastic or rubber boot that covers the bulb connection, and potentially the polycarbonate headlight lens.
The are quite a few extra bright 55 watt halogen lamps out there in the parts market which give you a brighter /longer range light for the same wattage as the stock lamp. You will also see "long life" or "anti vibe" types out there, but just like like love or life, nothing is guaranteed to last forever smiley

    Cheers, Steve
ps avoid handling the glass section of your new bulb as the oils from your skin can cause a hot-spot on the lamp and cause early failure

3 pin H4 bulbs are fitted to those which have 2 filaments ie one pin for low beam and one for high beam and one pin for the earth return. eg 60/55 Watt dual filament bulbs
Bulbs with 2 pins are usually only are for single filament units eg 55W, but there are some lamps out there have only two pins but are also 60/55W with the earth connection being made on the bulb metal backing plate, but wondering about your bike so went to Yamaha site and looked here:
http://www.starmotorcycles.com/assets/service/manuals/2010/LIT-11626-23-... and on page 7-27 it states you have 2 halogen bulbs, one for hi beam and one for low beam, so it would seem to me that you need either a 51w or 55w (as per page 9-3). Very odd wattages I must admit so am wondering if 51w is a typo and it should be 55w. The picture seems to show a straight 2 pin bulb for high beam (maybe a H7 style) and a right-angled 2 pin for the low beam.

    Cheers, Steve
