Our Progressive Rate Fork Springs soak up small road bumps yet can absorb the larger ones. The Progressively Wound design gives you the best of both worlds. When you install these fork springs you'll be amazed at the improvement you'll feel in the handling and ride of your cruiser. The rates and lengths of these Progressively Wound Springs have been carefully designed to fit most cruiser models. Spring rates have been chosen to reduce front end "dive" under braking yet still provide excellent ride comfort. Plus, we warranty our fork springs for life! Progressive Rate Springs have many advantages over straight rate springs. A straight rate spring only offers linear resistance to compression and is a compromise. For example, if you have a 20lb. straight rate spring it will take 20lbs. of force to compress the spring one inch. Then it will take 20 more lbs. of force to compress it the next inch, and so on, until the end of the travel.

A Progressive Rate Spring has the advantage of a rising rate resistance to compression. For example, a 15lb. to 25lb. Progressive Rate Spring will take 15lbs. to compress it the first inch, then 17lbs. the next inch, and so on, until the end of the travel; it will take 25lbs. to compress it the last inch. The benefit of this is that the spring can be soft enough at the start of the travel to offer a "plush" ride yet be stiff enough at the end of the travel to soak up the big bumps.

BETTER CONTROL, MINIMIZES FRONT END DIVING, CONTROLLED REBOUND

REVISED I had previouslly submitted a review after three years.

Typically almost all manufacturers bikes out of the facory could use some suspension help - - - more noticable after the novelty of your new ride (new or usued) has some real miles on it - - - not just your cruise around the block so to speak.
When I bought this bike I was living on Vancouver Island BC Canada for many yeas and rode all over MY Island which is surprisingly a lot larger than it appears on a map with lots of great touring highways and destinations - - - (get out of Victoria and enjoy what the island is all about)
Anyway, when riding on the island and through a lot of highways in the interior on the mainland I noticed a marked improvement in the handling and control.
Because my wife rides shotgun I really noticed the difference on one of our trips to the Kootenays to visit..

Installed these SIX YEARS years ago
No more dive on medium to hard braking.
Positive feel...

Smoother ride

When I first bought my bike two months ago, the Front forks were at a slight angle of about 30 degrees bent rearwards. With the help of Rick Bates from The Motorcycle Repair Centre in Ferntree Gully I repaired this small fault. Pacificcoastar supplied ( New Fork Legs) and these Progressive Springs. Once fitted the bike straightened up and steering was much better. These springs seemed to smooth out the road bumps and feel much better than the standards. All fittings and pre-load tension tubes come in the package. Although not for the amatuer to fit. Get your Mechanic to do this job.

Great springs great buy

2002 II00 shadow Spirit: Installed springs in about 2 hours. Changed fork oil from 10W to 15W as others have done who installed these springs. make sure you buy  length of 1inch schedule 40 pvc as the spacer that is sent with springs is not long enough to make 2 spacers or as in the case of my bike I could have if I wanted to cut orginial spacers down to fit as the instructions said I could do. i chose to use the PVC .Also helps if you have a buddy to press down on ratch as you tighten fork caps back on, one person fighting that spring is tricky. My bike rides so much better now! , When i lean hard into turns the bike no longer gets that mushy  wandering feeling which i thought was normal for this bike since i bought it in 2002. Where were these springs back then!!
