This was installed by a pro. So you'll have to look to other reviews about ease of installation. Fortunately, I have 2 laptops in the house. One runs Windows XP, the other Vista. The supplied software disc will install easily on the XP platform, but not so on Vista. BUT, downloading from dynojet and installing on Vista was not a problem at all and worked just fine. I couldn't believe how easy it actually was to use the software and upload a fuelmap to the PCIII. I'm not a computer geek by any means! With my experience with celphones I've learned to hate mini-USB connections, which is how the PCIII gets connected to my laptop. I had a bit of a time getting that connector into the PCIII, because I didn't want to force it and break anything. At first I thought I had it connected, but there was no communication going on between the laptop and PCIII. You really have to push the mini-USB snug up into the PCIII to get it connected right. Once you know what you're doing, it's not a problem. And the connection is snug and solid, it WILL NOT accidentally come undone unless you're really deliberately tugging on the cable. The mini-USB port on the PCIII has a dust cover to keep out moisture and dirt. There is no tether. It is a itty bitty teeny tiny piece of black plastic. It's easy to lose, and IMPORTANT to keep in your PCIII. So pay attention to what you're doing with it and where you put it. OK? I put this unit on a bike with V&H bigshots, stock air intake and a Cobra fuel manager unit when I purchased it. When this install was done, I also added the K&N replacement air intake kit. Not just a filter for the stock airbox, the stock airbox is gone. This is a product similar to the Barons BAK or aThunder intake system. After trying 2 different maps, 3rd map was the charm and my 2003 VTX1800C with 39K miles runs like a scalded cheetah! Can't believe it's the same bike! but it is.... Hope this helps.
