I did not want to remove the backrest because it is a integral part of Passenger comfort and the box cannot be used as a passenger backrest. I cured this problem by installing the box on top of heavy duty drawer slides bolted to the carrier. When it arrived I thought I should have gotten the smaller one. Now that I've had it for a month I am happy with the decision to go big! Helmet, rain gear, extra gloves, extra set of clothes... It all adds up really quickly. The trunk is sturdy and looks good too. As a side note, the lock jammed about two weeks after my purchase. I called Cruiser Customizing. They put me in touch with Saddlemen. Four days later I received a replacement lock, and Saddlemen paid the freight. Very happy with the trunk and superior customer service.
