Installation instructions don't mention that you have to lift up the radiator in order to remove the old cover and install the new one. Actual metal instead of plastic which is great. First let me say the instructions for this product are pretty much useless. Wrong wrench sizes and mentions nothing about how to take off the existing radiator cover due to the pin on the bottom of the radiator. Not to mention that putting the grille on with an existing Linby Highway Bar is a pain. You have to remove the highway bar. Once you get that off, and the bolts on the radiator off, you have to lift the radiator high enough to get the pin to come out of the hole. Once this is done you can remove the old grille and put the new one one. You then have the challenge of getting the new grille to clip on the radiator and blindly get the pin to fit back in the hole while keeping the grille cover in place. Once this is all done the reassembly is not bad unless you have the Lindby bar. Trying to get two sets of spacers as well as the radiator lined back up to fit in the hole of the frame is difficult and requires 2 sets of hands. Very frustrating. After a... Adds a great look to the front of the bike. Full metal construction on this,so far it seems very sturdy. I installed this my self, but there are times when a second set of hands would have been nice. Once you get the radiator lifted up ( it took me a while to figure out it), it's really easy to install. Seems like good quality as well. I didn't use the washers that came with it because the bolts were too short. Seem like it's working fine though. I personally like the new look! Review Details Was this review helpful to you? (5 stars) reviewed on 02/04/11 byBill (xsgt09) from La Mesa, CA, United States, for a 2012 Electra glide, Black 1300 VTX1300R (S) Retro wrote: Very nice, looks like the factory put it on as part of the original design. It appears to be well made and considering the prices of chrome add-ons, well worth the money. It really adds a custom look. As far as installation, watch the how-to TOTW video first as the written instructions only tell to take off the old one and put on the new one. And they tell you the incorrect wrench size. You can do it yourself by using tape to hold the horn out of the way, but a buddy is better. If you have Lindbars or similar highway bars, get two buddies and a monkey to help hold up the radiator and bars while you line up holes. Its doable, just take your time. It looks like it belongs on the bike, doesn't stick out, blends in nicely. Replacing plastic with chromed metal always makes me feel good. Getting all the parts to line up was a little tricky, so get so relax before you start the installation. Also, watch Kyle's TOTW berore you install it.. In the end you will likely be glad you went for it. Review Details Was this review helpful to you? Yes No |

Had to remove lower Radiator clamp to do it right. Clamp bolts a little hard to get to with my custom pipes. I used universal socket adapter to get to lower bolt. That made my life much easier. Looks nice now. Be careful not to strip upper radiator cover bolts as I did one. No problem for rethread. Review Details Was this review helpful to you? Yes No |
