Necessary for extensive travel; be very careful how you install it - the sissybar braces fit very precisely, so be sure that when you attach the luggage rack you don't mess up and tighten them too close together. If you do, when you go to put the sissybar/rack combo back on the braces will scratch your paint - trust me on this one.
