Julio Maldonado (tomcat837) Member #: CC99791 joined Dec. 2005 Rides a 2004 Limited dark grey full of chrome Intruder Volusia Mission, TX Contact tomcat837 Accessories: 17 Wishlist: 2 For Sale: 0 Other reviews: 0 ![]() I got into motorcycles about 16 years ago, while I was in the Air Force. I got the itch and saw a Honda GS550 SilverWing on consignment at a local Honda dealer in South Florida, do not remember the year though. I learned very quickly on that bike and it gave me a couple of years of enjoyment. After expecting my first born child I had to sell it and get a regular vehicle, bummer. A few years and couple more kids later I got the itch again, this time we had moved to Central Florida. Found in the paper a 1987 Suzuki GS850L from someone that owed some money to the IRS and needed to get rid of it right away. His loss was my gain, this was a bigger, heavier bike and I loved it. The Suzuki also gave me years of enjoyment but serving in the military comes with a price. So I was given orders to go to Venezuela and later Korea, I was heartbroken and had to sell the bike in '97. I separated from the Air Force on December of 2000 and moved to South Texas to try my luck with various careers until finding my niche in Information Technology. Five years after moving to Texas I felt stable enough to get the "itch" again and began looking for a motorcycle, only this time I didn't know what I should be looking for. Things had changed quite a bit, the only thing I was sure of is that it had to be a cruiser, since I am not a fan of "crotch rockets". There were so many new models and sizes since I had my last "horse", I was baffled. Then one day, driving around I saw one that caught my eye, I passed it and looked in my rear view mirror and saw a "For Sale" sign on top of the headlight, that made me do a "U" turn that almost caused an accident, but I had to look! It was beautiful, dark, and full of chrome, I have never seen one like it, and I couldn't believe it was a Suzuki, since it looked more like a Harley from a distance, but I was glad it wasn't since I am a fan of metric bikes, and I thought to myself what a beautiful 2004 Suzuki Volusia Limited with only 2,400 miles on it. I took down the phone number and put it in the back of my head, since I was not too sure about spending the money since I was really looking for used bikes in the 2k to 3k range and this one was a little more. A couple of weeks later I drove by the same road again and saw that it was still there, but after that never saw it again so I thought it must be sold being so beautiful and all. 2 more weeks, lo and behold it was there again, I decided to give the owner a call and go for it, went to see it that evening and made an appointment to return the following weekend for a test ride. I did, and fell in love eve more, he is smooth and responsive as much as great and mean looking. After bringing it home I began looking for more information and forums on the Internet and found several, but the one that made the biggest impression on me was www.volusiariders.com. After a couple of weeks of reading and learning more about my new toy I decided it was time to start personalizing this bike to reflect more who I am. More Chrome, Drag Handlebars, Corbin YoungGuns seat, etc, can't say that I am done with the Mods, because there will always be something that I might want to change, it's all good. Anyway, he is mine now and I will be sure to update my picture on this site every time I add something new, but you can always go to www.volusiariders.com and search for member "tomcat837" to look in my personal gallery and see all the pictures I have there, you will see the "evolution" from the time I got it until the present. Thank you for reading, Julio |
